Jeppesen and Satcom Direct have teamed up to offer bundled services integrating each company's respective flight planning and cockpit communications solutions.

The agreement integrates Jeppesen's JetPlan flight planning service and Satcom Direct's FlightDeck Freedom (FDF) service to offer direct cockpit communications capability in a bundled solution for customers.

FDF supports flightdeck communications via Inmarsat, Iridium and Sita VHF and transmits flight data to the crew, including pre-departure clearances, Digital ATIS, oceanic clearances, current airport weather, graphical weather and flight plan routes.

"The partnership between Jeppesen and Satcom Direct brings additional value plus a one-stop solution for our mutual customers. Combining the best-in-class flight planning service and aircraft communications is a natural fit to enhance efficiency and provide economic benefits for business aviation operators," said Thomas Wede, Jeppesen senior vice-president and general manager, aviation.

Dispatchers and maintenance personnel are able to monitor the aircraft through automated take-off and landing reports, two-way email communication with the aircraft, and position monitoring with Satcom Direct's new SD Flight Tracker.

The bundle also includes access to Jeppesen's JetPlan.com web interface for flight planning and filing services, as well as the JetPlan database, which includes en route text weather reports, briefings, navigation fees, online user manuals, weather maps, Notams, Federal Aviation Administration- approved RAIM prediction reports. Jeppesen will offer graphical flight tracking from November.

Meanwhile, Jeppesen received the green light from the FAA, allowing the company's electronic charts to be quickly and efficiently integrated with aircraft navigations systems.

The AC20-148 Reusable Software Component (RSC) acceptance letter pre-certificates the installation of the Jeppesen charts, eliminating a recertification requirement each time elements were implemented into a system.

Jeppesen says the RSC will allow integration time to be cut to just months. In addition the Jeppesen Integration Toolkit also includes an embedded Software Developers Kit further cutting integration time.
