Two-seat light jet developer Aviation Technology Group (ATG) has frozen the design of its Javelin and plans to fly the production-conforming version as early as October next year, despite late changes to the wing.

The wing was enlarged to 13.8m2 (149ft2) and given full-span leading-edge flaps and trailing-edge Fowler flaps to improve field performance. The change was driven by the need to "compete with turboprops" in the military training market, and to lower stall and approach speeds, says operations vice-president and chief test pilot Robert Fuschino.

The modification is expected to reduce stall speed to around 86kt (160km/h) with 20% fuel. "We want to make sure the aircraft is safe," says ATG chairman George Bye.
