NBAA volunteers took a break from setting up booths or assembling airplanes to build a new playground for a local community near Orlando Executive Airport. It was officially opened yesterday afternoon.

The work was carried out in partnership with non-profit organization Kaboom. “Their motto of ‘we want to build a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America’, resonated with us,” says Maureen Cameron, NBAA’s marketing director of conventions and seminars.

“Last year we helped build a playground at a school in Altlanta close to its airport,” Cameron says. “We felt we wanted to give back something to the local aviation communities and this was a great way.”

NBAA organisers worked along with local groups to help decide which community would benefit from the scheme and this year it was awarded to the Hollowbrook complex. The 150 volunteers who rolled up their sleeves for the day included top executives from companies exhibiting at NBAA and staff from main sponsor Signature BBA.

“It’s a great pleasure and really rewarding to see the kids so happy,” says volunteer T W Anderson, an airport manager from Newton, Kansas. “Their parents are pleased too as they know their kids have somewhere safe to play.”
