The long-delayed certification of the first aftermarket application of an enhanced vision system (EVS) is now on track for late this year or early next year, according to distributor Jetcraft Avionics.
Elbit Systems subsidiary Kollsman decided four years ago to break into the aftermarket business with a EVS II retrofit program for the Bombardier Challenger 604, but the program was stalled until now.
Jetcraft has now resolved issued papers from the US Federal Aviation Administration, clearing the way for flight testing to commence in mid-November, says Ken Elliott, vice president of avionics systems. The programme has not been taking orders as certification delays dragged on.
"Everyone asks the same question: 'When will you have the [supplemental type certificate]?'" says Elliott. "I've deliberately pulled back, to be honest, from pushing it."
The technology will allow operators to apply to the FAA for landing credit down to 100ft. Jetcraft and Kollsman continue to focus on the retrofit market for the Challenger and VIP cabin version of the Bombardier CRJ200, he says.
