Russia and Uzbekistan are planning to establish a helicopter maintenance joint venture that will initially involve repairing Mil Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters.
Russian news agency Interfax says the agreement was signed by Boris Alyoshin, head of the Russian Federal Industry Agency Rosprom and Russian prime minister Mikhail Fradkov during an official visit to Tashkent.
The founders of the joint venture will be Russia's Rosoboronexport, united industrial corporation Oboronprom and Uzbekistan's Chkalov aircraft manufacturing association in Tashkent and Uzmakhsusimpeks enterprise.
The joint venture will be based at the Chirchik aircraft repair plant near Tashkent. Russian organisations will control no less than 51% of the new company UzRosAvia, which will be set up in 2007, Alyoshin says.
