Kazakhstan's flag carrier Air Astana is to start an Almaty-Tehran service this summer.
Negotiations between the nation's civil aviation officials and their Iranian counterparts yielded an addendum to a bilateral air agreement. This allows Air Astana to fly thrice weekly from Almaty to the Iranian capital. The flights are to begin in June.
Flightglobal's Ascend Fleets database shows that Iran's Mahan Air already links Kazakhstan's commercial capital with Tehran, operating twice weekly on the route.
The new agreement is a first of its kind since international sanctions on Iran were lifted last year, says Bagdad Amreyev, Kazakhstan's ambassador to the nation.
