Dubai International airport’s operator is blaming a drone intrusion for an hour-long interruption to services including closure of its airspace for about 30min.
The airport, which is the base for Emirates, closed between 08:08 and 08:35 on 28 September.
Dubai would typically record around 30 departures in this morning time interval.
The operator, Dubai Airports, attributes the closure to “unauthorised drone activity” and states that it caused “a number of delays”.
While arrivals resumed at 08:35 and departures at 08:40, the operator says restrictions were not lifted until 09:07.
It states that safety is the company’s “top priority” and stressed that drone operation is prohibited within 5km of airports.
