Israeli flag carrier El Al is to expand its European network next year with services to the Irish capital Dublin and the German city of Dusseldorf.

El Al has disclosed the new routes, which will commence in summer 2020, during a first-half results presentation.

The airline says it serves 21 destinations in western Europe, not including the two new connections.

El Al has already revealed plans to open new long-haul routes to Tokyo and Chicago next year.

The airline just managed to break even at pre-tax level during the second quarter, an improvement on the previous $23.4 million loss.

But over the first half it still made a pre-tax loss of $70.7 million compared with the $80.3 million interim loss in 2018.

El Al revenues for the first six months of the year stayed largely flat at just over $1 billion, although it managed to trim expenditure by about 2% to $877 million.
