Iranian carrier Mahan Air is to launch flights from Tehran to the Danish capital Copenhagen next March.
The airline announced the new route in Durban today at World Routes. Mahan Air will initially operate the route twice-weekly, but plans to increase capacity as the route develops, the carrier's director, marketing and route development Hossein Hosseini.
"We think this is the largest unserved market in Europe for airlines in Iran," he says. The airline will launch the routes on 3 March and will serve the market using Airbus A310 and A340 types. That includes A340-600s, marking the first scheduled deployment of the type at Copenhagen.
"This is opening up the 18th biggest economy in the world and there is inbound and outbound interest from both business and leisure travellers," adds Copenhagen airport's chief commercial officer Peter Krogsgaard.
Hosseini says Mahan Air is looking at adding more European destinations as well as opportunities in the far east.
