Investigators are probing an apron explosion overnight at Istanbul’s secondary Sabiha Gokcen airport which injured two cleaning personnel.
The airport’s operator says it does not yet know the cause of the explosion which occurred at around 02:00 on 23 December.
Authorities are looking into the reasons for the explosion, the operator states, but flight operations are continuing.
Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines, which has its main base at the airport, says the explosion occurred at 02:05 and injured two cleaning personnel positioned near a Pegasus aircraft.
“There were no passengers in, or beneath, the aircraft,” says the carrier.
While Turkey has been the scene of several recent bomb attacks, there is no immediate evidence that the explosion is the result of sabotage.
