India and the UK have agreed a deal that eases restrictions on flights originating from "key Indian cities" including Chennai and Kolkata.
Confirming the agreement, the UK government notes that 2.5 million passengers fly direct between the countries each year and that there are 88 scheduled flights per week in each direction. It adds: "The agreement today will open up even more routes and opportunities."
FlightGlobal schedules data shows that British Airways is the largest carrier by seat capacity on routes between India and the UK, with a 36% share, followed by Air India with 32% and Jet Airways with 21%.
London-Delhi is the route with the highest number of seats, accounting for 35% of the total. Next is London-Mumbai route, with just over 30%.
