Bose (Hall 2, Stand A4) has brought out the Aviation Headset X, its latest version of the 'headset of choice' for many professional and general aviation pilots.

The most visible modifications come with the new portable control module, which is 30% more compact than its predecessor. An improved boom microphone design allows more precise and reliable mic placement on either earcup to suit pilots' individual preferences.

New AdaptiSense headset technology incorporates a power-management system to conserve energy and take the guesswork out of battery status. As a result pilots can expect up to 40h of operations from just two AA alkaline batteries, twice the life of the previous 9-volt version of the portable control module.

The system also detects when the pilot has stopped wearing the headset and automatically shuts off power to the active noise-reducing circuitry.

Steve Kingsbury, general manager of the Bose Noise Reduction Group, says: "Most active noise reduction headsets require a combination of large earcups and considerable headband force to muffle aircraft noise, resulting in an undesirable trade-off - more noise reduction usually means more discomfort.

"The Bose TriPort headset technology uses three small openings to leverage the air outside the earcups, enabling a smaller, lighter, more comfortable headset that still delivers full-spectrum noise reduction."
