Casa's space division in Madrid has developed and qualified a new spacecraft separation system which is to fly on the Ariane 505 and 506 mission later this year.

The system is a clamp ring that holds the spacecraft to the payload adapter, which is also supplied by Casa.

Five different types of the payload adapters have been supplied for Ariane 4 flights carrying a wide range of payloads.

The Clamp Ring Separation System complements the adapters, providing a complete product which costs and weighs less, and which can handle payloads weighing up 7,000kg (15,000lb).
