Airbus yesterday announced one of the few orders at the show with the sale of two A320 aircraft to Air Deccan. The sale is valued at $130 million.
India's first low-cost carrier has also taken two options on the same type and will lease a further five from Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE).
Deliveries of the leased aircraft will begin in July this year, while those of the new aircraft from Airbus will start in September 2005.
Air Deccan managing director GR Gopinath said the major growth plans of his airline were based on the booming economy of India. "You cannot even imagine the potential in India where two new phone operators had won 10 million new subscribers in just a year."
