Russian aircraft manufacturer Irkut has selected Pratt & Whitney's PW1000G geared turbofan as a platform on which to develop an engine to power the proposed MS-21 twin-jet.
The MS-21 family will comprise three models designed to accomodate 150, 181 and 212 passengers. Irkut, which acts as a system integrator, expects the first aircraft to be operational in 2016.
In a statement, Irkut says Russia's United Engine Corporation is to participate in developing and producing the powerplant applications for the MS-21. UEC will also supply domestically-built engines for the programme.
Irkut has also selected Rockwell Collins and its Russian partner Avionika to supply avionics.
Aviapribor Holding, along with Rockwell Collins and Goodrich, have secured the mandate to develop an integrated control system for the MS-21.
