Avianca majority shareholder Synergy Aerospace's new Argentinian airline subsidiary has received its first ATR 72-600.
ATR says the carrier – which will be branded as Avianca Argentina – is still in the process of being certificated, but intends to launch operations by the end of March.
At the ALTA Leaders Forum in November 2016, ATR and Synergy disclosed an order for 12 ATR 72-600s and options for another six of the turboprops.
The manufacturer indicated that Avianca Argentina would receive the 12 aircraft by January 2018.
Avianca Argentina is set to conduct scheduled and charter flights, initially from Buenos Aires. But the airline plans to establish operations from Cordoba and Tucuman too.
ATR notes that Avianca Argentina's aircraft is the first ATR 72-600 in the country.
Colombia-based Avianca already operates ATR 72-600s, and Mexican carrier Aeromar Airlines has introduced the aircraft and the smaller ATR 42-600 as part of an investment by Synergy.
