Spain's government has given approval for the acquisition of an additional 23 NH Industries NH90 troop transport helicopters.
However, Madrid needs to give a further endorsement before a firm contract is signed.
The helicopters are assembled and delivered from the Albacete facility of NHI consortium member Airbus Helicopters.
Spain already operates eight examples of the NH90 TTH variant, with another 14 on order, Flight Fleets Analyzer records.

The additional quantity proposed would take its fleet to 45 helicopters, the strength originally envisaged before a contract modification in 2015 reduced the order by almost half.
In addition, Spain is to modernise its fleet of 17 Boeing CH-47D Chinooks, raising them to the current F-model standard.
Both programmes are covered by Spain's financial spending plan for the 2019-2031 period.
