Northrop Grumman has secured orders worth a combined $87.8 million to supply APG-68(V)9 fire control radars to be installed on Lockheed Martin F-16s for the air forces of Iraq, Oman and Thailand.
A total of 43 sensors will be delivered under the Foreign Military Sales deal between the US government and the three nations. The work is to be completed by March 2015, Northrop says.
The company will supply 22 radars for use with the Iraqi air force's on-order fleet of 18 F-16C/Ds, and 15 for Oman's follow-on batch of 12 aircraft. The remaining six will be supplied to the Royal Thai Air Force, which Flightglobal's MiliCAS database reports as currently operating 54 legacy F-16A/Bs.
Northrop says its sales performance with the APG-68(V)9 now totals 750 systems for 12 nations.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) also earlier this month detailed a potential $86 million request from Oman to acquire 55 Raytheon AIM-9X Block II short-range air-to-air missiles to equip its current F-16 fleet. The nation already has 12 C/D-model fighters in operational use.
If approved by the US Congress, the sale would facilitate "a significant increase in Oman's defensive capability", the DSCA says.
