Brazilian carrier Ocean Air is expecting to receive seven of the Airbus A330s and 21 of the Airbus A320s ordered by corporate parent Synergy Group earlier this year.
The Sao Paulo-based airline currently operates Boeing 767s and 757s as well as several Fokker 100s and turboprops.
Synergy Group earlier this year ordered a total of 10 A330s, 31 A320s and 16 A319s. These are currently listed as destined for Synergy’s Colombian operator Avianca.
Ocean Air is widely reported as stating that it will be taking 28 Airbus aircraft to renew its fleet, comprising seven A330s and 21 A320s.
Airbus stresses that these aircraft are simply being transferred from the original order placed under Avianca’s name. “It’s a new operator for Airbus,” she says. “But it is not an additional order.”
Synergy Group committed to the Airbuses in two batches. In May it ordered five A330s and 33 A320-family jets, subsequently selecting Rolls-Royce Trent 700s for the widebodies and CFM International CFM56s for the narrowbodies.
It followed this order in June by firming options on another five A330s and 14 more A320-family aircraft. Avianca also has 10 Boeing 787-8s on order as part of its fleet renewal.
