Raytheon has demonstrated the operational readiness of the multisector oceanic data link (MS-ODL) installed at the US Federal Aviation Administration's air route traffic control centre in Oakland, California. Similar installations will take place at the New York and Anchorage centres. The MS-ODL allows for digital text message traffic between controllers and flightdecks over oceanic regions. Sending such messages via very high frequency or satellite datalinks increases the accuracy and efficiency of controller-to-pilot communications, claims the company.
