Oman's first of 20 NH Industries NH90 tactical transport helicopters completed its first, 1h 20min test flight from Eurocopter's Marignane facility in southern France last week, with the type on track to enter service with the nation's air force from 2008. Oman ordered the new aircraft in July 2004, and its fleet is to be equipped with upgraded Rolls-Royce Turbomeca RTM322 engines to meet its requirement to operate in hot and high conditions. The aircraft will also be used to provide search-and-rescue services.
