OnAir says it is in talks with Aeroflot and Moscow-based mobile network operator MegaFon to provide key technology for the carrier's planned in-flight connectivity solution.
Last week Aeroflot announced it will equip an initial four aircraft - three Airbus A320s and a single A330 - with mobile connectivity in partnership with MegaFon. Wi-Fi is also to be offered on the long-haul aircraft.
Other partners were not disclosed. However, a spokeswoman with Airbus/SITA joint venture OnAir today said: "Consultations with the two Russian companies are already in progress."
She adds: "The Russian market, given the size of the country and the important number of passengers travelling between Russia and other countries, has a very high potential. OnAir, as the leader in global onboard connectivity solutions, supports joint efforts of leading Russian companies, MegaFon and Aeroflot, and is ready to enter this project and other similar projects as a technical solution supplier."
