Lessor Avolon is to purchase 10 more Airbus A330-900s, but is to amend its previous order for the re-engined type.
The company’s Chinese parent, Bohai Leasing, has disclosed the plan to the Shenzhen stock exchange.
It says the 10 aircraft, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, will be delivered over the course of 2022-24.
Bohai states that the acquisition will have a “positive effect” on the company’s future business results.
Avolon already had 15 A330neos, all -900s, on order but three of these will be cancelled as part of the new agreement.
Bohai puts the value of the contract at just under $3 billion. It says the deal was approved on 14 November.
Avolon has already taken delivery of eight A330neos from its original order in December 2014, with deliveries to carriers including TAP Portugal and Azul.
Airbus had taken orders for 272 A330neos by the end of October this year, of which all but 10 are A330-900s. Eighteen of the -900s are assigned to undisclosed customers.
