Cathay Pacific has ordered three Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and a single 747-8 freighter.
The deal, worth HK$7.4 billion ($950 million) at list prices, follows the Oneworld carrier’s announcement on 20 December that it has ordered 21 777-9Xs.
The 777-300ERs will arrive in 2015 and the 747-8F in 2016, says Cathay in a statement. It adds that it now operates 37 777-300ERs, and will receive 15 more between 2014 and 2015.
The additional freighter Cathay has ordered means it will operate 14 747-8Fs by 2016.
“We are very pleased to confirm this latest aircraft purchase from Boeing,” says chief executive John Slosar.
“Both the 777-300ER and the 747-8F offer a highly efficient solution on Cathay Pacific’s ultra-long-haul routes, combining superb operating economics with a significant reduction in emissions. These two aircraft types will form the backbone of our long-haul passenger and freighter fleets through to the end of the decade.”
