FedEx Corp has agreed to order 50 767-300 Freighters with options to buy 50 more.
The $8 billion deal at list prices should reduce the express cargo carrier’s structural costs, improve fuel efficiency and reliability, FedEx says in a statement.
Boeing is ramping up 767 deliveries to two per month as continues development of a military tanker derivative for the US Air Force.
Last week, Boeing announced that the KC-46 tanker must accept a further $535 million after-tax charge due to fuel systems problems. That adds to an after-tax charge $272 million that Boeing reported in the second earnings report a year ago.
“We’re pleased that FedEx has chosen the 767 Freighter and appreciate their confidence in the airplane,” Boeing says.
