WestJet has ordered nine Bombardier Q400 turboprops, exercising its remaining options for the aircraft.
The Calgary-based carrier’s regional subsidiary WestJet Encore will increase its fleet to 45 Q400s with the order. Deliveries are scheduled for 2017 and 2018.
“Bombardier's Toronto-built Q400 turboprop airliner has allowed us to expand from our Western Canada base to more and more communities from coast to coast across Canada and into the US," said Ferio Pugliese, president of WestJet Encore, in a statement. "These nine new superb Q400 aircraft will continue to grow our network."
The order is worth $293 million at list prices.
WestJet operated 27 Q400s and had firm orders for nine more aircraft at the end of the first quarter, its latest financial statements show.
