Avidyne has unveiled a new system to replace a rival navigation/communication system on general aviation aircraft with an integrated avionics stack including navigation and communications.
The IFD540 system is designed to replace Garmin GNS530 navigators and add several new functions. The Avidyne product combines a flight management system featuring touch-screen displays with a 10W, two-channel digital VHF radio.
The entire system, weighing 3.7kg (8.5lb) is designed to slide-in to the tray and antennas used by GNS530 navigators on thousands of general aviation aircraft, Avidyne says.
The "stack" is based on Avidyne's existing flight management systems, including FMS900w and Entegra Release 9 touch screen.
