The FAA has granted supplemental type certification (STC) for the recore and upgrade of Honeywell's ozone converter on the Airbus A320. The technology combines a proven long-life ozone converter with a hydrocarbon catalyst to reduce fuel and oil odours in the cabin. The upgrade lowers overall maintenance costs by extending service intervals. It works by oxidising surplus hydrocarbons, mainly when the aircraft is taxiing or queuing at congested airports.
