Pratt & Whitney has completed assembly of the first PurePower PW1217G geared turbofan designed for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet.
The engine is rated at 17,000lbs (76kN) of thrust, and is the third PW1000G powerplant to complete assembly. P&W now plans to deliver it to its West Palm Beach, Florida facility for testing.
P&W plans to have a total of eight 1200G test engines in the programme during the next 24 months, followed by the MRJ's planned entry-into-service in 2014. Mitsubishi has secured two firm customers for the aircraft - All Nippon Airways and Trans States Holdings.
The company recently re-located the PW1524G designed for the Bombardier CSeries first engine to test to Manitoba, Canada for cold weather evaluations. P&W expects to receive certification for the PW1524G in 2012 to support the CSeries first flight in late 2012.
Airbus has also selected the PW1100G to power the re-engined A320neo and Irkut has also chosen the PW1400G for its new MS-21 jet.
