The CAPPS II debacle (Flight International, 7-13 October) is yet another example of US post-9/11 paranoia. It is unacceptable for air travellers to have their personal details held on a computer database that any IT-literate teenager could hack. At a time when the airline industry is struggling, this kind of bureaucracy will only discourage air travel.
It is also futile: as a UK passport holder I can fly to and around the USA whenever I wish and not be subject to such nonsense. The conclusion seems to be that the US government treats its own subjects as a security risk while foreigners are free to fly.
