Germany's Brotje Automation has won a contract to supply GKN Aerospace with a moving line assembly system. The system will be used in assembly of the A350 XWB wing trailing edge and main landing gear parts on to the aircraft's primary all-composite rear wing spar, which will take place at GKN's plant in Bristol, UK. Automated guided vehicles will move the A350 wing structures through dedicated work stations that will carry out five-axis machining, robotic drilling and laser scanning. The line will start operating in 2010.
