US parts manufacturing approval specialist Chromalloy (hall 3A, 33) reports that high-pressure turbine (HPT) blades produced by its Belac joint venture have notched up 10,000 flight hours with an unidentified airline.

The blades are produced for the General Electric CF6-80C2 engine and Chromalloy promises better performance than original equipment manufacturer' items at lower cost.

Belac president Chong Yi says: "Our blades are subject to the same rigorous engineering design and manufacturing processes and FAA scrutiny as OEM blades. As independently manufactured replacement parts, HPT blades cost operators significantly less - and the cost-savings to the operators multiply over the lifecycle of the aircraft."

Belac is an 11-year-old joint venture of Carlyle-owned Chromalloy with Alitalia, Lufthansa Technik and United Airlines.
