Up to €3 million ($4.2 million) is to be spent this year by France's Finistere regional government on research work that will also encourage aerospace sector growth with a target of 45 companies.

The region's 30 aerospace companies already span the areas of electronics, software engineering, composite materials and virtual reality. French aerospace giant Thales is also in the region, as is airline Brit Air.

As well as those 30 companies there are 10 research centres and six engineering schools that the regional government hopes will provide the research infrastructure and employees of the future.
