Selex ES’s new SuperHawk infrared detector is promising to capture better than high-definition images in complete darkness.
Parent company Finmecanica says that the new detector is made up of more than one million 8 micron-sized infrared pixels, and use a unique structure that cannot blur at all. As a result, the sensor can detect temperature differences as small as one-fiftieth of a degree.
It adds that the technology is particularly relevant for armed forces determining which threats to engage.
