Dutch firm AELS has taken on a new project to dismantle this ex-Air India Airbus A310-300 aircraft after a planned freighter conversion fell through.

The aircraft, serial number 654, was formerly owned by Singapore Airlines before being acquired by Air India in 2004. It then passed to logistics firm FedEx in 2007, with conversion due to be undertaken by EADS EFW in Dresden.

However, with the economic downturn and fall in freight volumes which followed, the conversion did not happen and the aircraft remained in EFW's possession.

It will now be taken apart by AELS with some components recycled and recertified as spare parts.
