Eurocopter has flown the first NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopter for Oman from its Marignane facility. Oman ordered 20 of the multi-purpose helicopters in July 2004, and specified an upgraded engine to cope with the extreme operating conditions of the Middle East.
The helicopters will be operated by the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) in the tactical transport and search and
rescue roles, and are due to be progressively introduced into service from 2008.
EADS subsidiary Eurocopter says a total of 453 NH90s have been ordered by 14 countries.
