US-based electronic flight bag specialist NavAero has received certification for a class 2 EFB from the European Aviation Safety Agency, the first time EASA has cleared an EFB of this category.

Its installation was developed in association with Saab Aerotech and Scandinavian Airlines, and certificated for use on all marques of Boeing 737 from the -300 classic to the -900 Next Generation aircraft.

NavAero's chief operating officer Lars Eriksson says this supplemental type certificate clears the company's t.BagC2² for use on all 737s anywhere in the world, and it can run all performance, weight and balance, charting and other applications that airlines require.

The commercial off-the-shelf computer and display system at the centre of the installation, which runs the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system, had already been cleared by the FAA, says NavAero, adding that it will run any airline-specific software applications compatible with the operating system.

It also offers wireless connectivity for upload and download of data, says the company.
