UK premium start-up carrier Silverjet has received its first Boeing 767-200 in its metallic paint scheme as it secures US approval to begin services between London Luton and New York Newark Liberty on 25 January.
The aircraft (G-SJET) was acquired as part of its take-over of charter carrier Flyjet and lessor Skylease, allowing it to move forward its launch date. The aircraft was refurbished and painted by MAAS in Maastricht airport.
Silverjet has also finalised an agreement with charter operator Thomsonfly for the acquisition of two additional 767s, the first of which is scheduled for delivery next March. The aircraft are financed through a deal with aircraft management company Novus Aviation covering the $37 million lease and refit.
The aircraft are configured with 100 flat-bed seats and Silverjet plans to add another three long-haul routes within three years to Newark service and eventually operate a fleet of ten aircraft.
Silverjet says the US Department of Transportation has granted the licences that it requires to begin taking bookings in the US for its first route.
