Kingfisher chairman Vijay Mallya, who was at a ceremony at the Franco-Italian manufacturer's facility in Toulouse to mark the delivery (pictured below), say the new aircraft “will allow us to develop our network and introduce new routes not previously served”.

Currently Kingfisher operates Airbus A320 family aircraft. The smaller capacity ATR 72-500s will generally be used on thinner routes.

The airline ordered 20 ATR72-500s last November and in February ordered another 15. It also has options for another 20. Kingfisher’s ATR 72-500s will be equipped with the Elegance interior cabin from ATR and in-flight entertainment systems from Thales.

Air Deccan, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways also operate ATR turboprops in India.
