Business aviation services provider Signature Flight Support has won a bid to build and run a fixed-base operation (FBO) at Mineta San José International airport (SJC) in California.
The Orlando, Florida-headquartered company is now seeking the go-ahead from San José city council to begin construction of the $82 million facility on the west side of SJC, also known as "Silicon Valley's airport".
Plans call for a "full-service" FBO, 240,000ft² (22,300m²) of hangar space, a 930m² executive terminal, a 700m² "technology garden", 2,230m² dedicated to offices and shops, and 18.5 acres (7.5ha) of ramp space, says Signature.

SJC director of aviation Bill Sherry says: "The airport completed a $1.4 billion upgrade to the terminal in 2010, and now our focus must be the proposed private development of the West Side by Signature, to support the private aviation needs of local high-tech companies, most notably the personal aircraft of the principals at Google."
Signature operates at more than 100 locations in the USA, Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.
