The Polish Ministry of Defence has issued a request for information (RFI) covering its purchase of up to six VIP transports and set a response deadline of the end of this month.

The country is understood to require up to two large, long-range business jets and four smaller transports for use by government officials, although an exact mix of types is not specified.

Respondents are expected to include Airbus and Boeing, offering the A319 Corporate Jet and BBJ Next Generation 737 , respectively, and British Aerospace, with a VIP version of its Avro RJ regional jet. According to industry sources, Poland is also requesting information on the Bombardier Challenger, Dassault Falcon series, Gulfstream IV and Raytheon Hawker 1000 business jets.

A formal request for proposals could follow early next year. Budgetary constraints may lead Poland to drop the long-haul requirement in favour of using aircraft from flag carrier LOT.
