Portugal's government is to go ahead with privatising maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company OGMA, writes Rainer Uphoff.

OGMA carries out maintenance work on airframes, engines and avionics. The president of regional airline Portugalia, Joao Ribeiro da Fonseca, says his company would "value positively teaming up with TAP for a joint bid for OGMA" - possibly including manufacturer Embraer, which has already indicated its interest.

TAP Air Portugal plays down this possibility, however. "The government has to elaborate the model and publish the conditions. For the time being, they have not yet even defined the percentage of the company to be sold. TAP has not yet decided whether it will be interested in participating in OGMA's privatisation or if it might do so as part of a consortium," it says.
