UK helicopter charter and management company PremiAir Aviation plans to inaugurate its redeveloped London Heliport in the second quarter of next year to coincide with 50th anniversary of the opening of the capital's only commercial heliport.

Denham, south of England-based PremiAir was snapped up last year along with the Battersea-based site which it manages, by the luxury hotel group von Essen, for which it manages a fleet of helicopters and business jets.

The expansion and redevelopment programme, which includes a new luxury hotel adjacent to the site and a new aircraft terminal, is designed to exploit the boom in demand for the heliport from helicopter owners and operators who require access to the city.

London heliport records around 1,000 movements a month and was forced last year to introduce a slot allocation system and remove its weight-based pricing structure to ensure its complies with its annual movement limit of 6,000 landings. Meanwhile, PremiAir has taken delivery of a Eurocopter EC155 medium twin helicopter, bringing its managed fleet to 17 aircraft.
