Premier Jet has ordered three shipsets of the Tamarack Aerospace active winglet to add to a retrofit kit in development for the Cessna 525 CitationJet.
Idaho-based Tamarack unveiled its active winglet technology in 2012. It is designed to reduce drag caused by a winglet-induced bending on the wing. The Tamarack winglet adds an outboard control surface that activates to dump excess aerodynamic loads.
Premier Jet expects the winglet to improve range by 463km (250nm), largely by improving fuel efficiency during climb to 41,000ft, says president and chief executive John Hall.
Cessna built about 360 CitationJet models before introducing the CJ1, and Premier Jet estimates "conservatively" a market for about 35 retrofit kits with the winglet, Hall says.
The "CJ Plus" kit also includes a Garmin G-1000 avionics suite.
