AeroContinente's troubles have deepened following a declaration by the US government that Fernando Zevallos, the airline's founder, is a drug "kingpin" as defined under US law. The Peruvian airline is already banned from US skies by the FAA for safety reasons, but the latest action could result in seizure of its aircraft and other assets. Neither Zevallos nor the airline have been convicted of any drug-related offences.
