The US Air Transport Association (ATA) is forecasting a net profit of $4.5 billion for its member airlines this year, but it expects that to drop slightly in 1998. The US trade association, representing 22 major US air carriers, says that members could reap record profits this year, topping the previous record of $2.8 billion set in 1996.
