Airbus is targeting certification for the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-powered version of the A319neo by the end of 2019.
The manufacturer tells FlightGlobal that the test campaign will be conducted with the same aircraft, MSN6464, that was used to gain approval for the A319neo with the alternative CFM International Leap-1A engine.
That variant has just been granted joint certification by the European Aviation Safety Agency and US Federal Aviation Administration, Airbus disclosed earlier today.
The airframer says it will convert the test aircraft to the PW1100G engine during the first quarter of 2019 and foresees around 200h of flight testing within the certification effort.
Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that out of Airbus's total A319neo order backlog of 53 aircraft, there are 36 for which an engine type has still to be selected by the customers.
The other 17 have been ordered with Leap engines.
