Subaru has completed production of the first Boeing 777X centre wing box.
The wingbox was completed at the company’s Handa factory, and has been integrated with main landing gear wheel wells, says the Japanese manufacturer.
The company celebrated the achievement during a ceremony that included government officials and Boeing representatives.
Subaru, formerly known as Fuji Heavy Industries, is a major supplier for Boeing. In addition to the 777X’s aluminum/titanium centre wing box, it produces the composite wing box for the 787.
In April 2016, Fuji completed a 11,600m2 facility to manufacture 777X centre wing boxes at its Handa plant. Equipped with assembly lines featuring automatic riveters, as well as transfer and painting machines, it started operations in 2017.
The first 777-9 is expected to enter service with Emirates in 2020.
