An International Launch Services-operated Proton K booster launched the US GE-6 communications satellite into geostationary transfer orbit from Baikonur on 22 October. The Lockheed Martin-built GE-6 will operate at 72¹W in geostationary orbit, providing services via 24 C-band and 28 Ku-band transponders. It was the third Proton launch from Baikonur in 20 days. The previous launches placed communications and Glonass satellites into orbit.
