Boeing has selected the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine to power military versions of the 747-400F being proposed in the company's bid for the US Air Force's Non-Developmental Airlift Aircraft (NDAA) programme. The NDAA is a wide-body commercial or military aircraft, which will augment the Lockheed C-141 fleet and provide alternative airlift capability if the US Department of Defense decides not to go ahead with the purchase of 120 McDonnell Douglas C-17s. The USAF is committed to buying only 40 C-17s.
